Why strive if there's no one other than ourselves to strive for? Surely we can live beneath our means so why strive for something more?

Is there someone worth striving for? Would ourselves be enough to strive for, or would striving for ourselves make us appealing to one we'd do anything for? What's the use in creating a beautiful garden if it's just for us to see? Maybe Heaven was made for two.
